Celebrating the Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize the sacrifices and achievements made by military families in America.

Month of the Military Child was established by former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger in 1986 to commemorate and honor all military children for their strength and courage in dealing with the special circumstances that accompany a life connected to our nation’s armed forces.

These kids face unique hardships such as frequent moves, schooling disruptions, uprooting of friendships and bonds, deployment of one or both parents and oftentimes, extended separations due to long deployments. Despite these challenges, military children remain resilient and continue to excel academically, socially, and most importantly personally.

This April, let us all come together to recognize our nation’s military children by showing our appreciation for their service, sacrifice, and commitment. We should express our gratitude for their courage and strength in facing the difficult circumstances that accompany life in a military family.
