Lauren Cole served as Evocati’s Marketing & Communications Intern from February through June 2021. Below she share’s about her experience working at Evocati including what she learned during her internship.

What were your expectations going into your internship?

I was really excited for this internship and just for the opportunity to grow and learn about marketing and to put the skills that I have learned in my classes to practice. I wasn’t sure what to expect exactly but I knew that whatever I would do would be challenging and rewarding. Working with Evocati has been nothing short of that.

How did your experience differ from your expectations?

I really had no idea what a marketing firm did in terms of working with clients. This experience taught me a lot about client work, pitching to prospective clients and professionalism. I had to expand my knowledge of LinkedIn and SquareSpace, two platforms that I was very unfamiliar with when I first started. Now, I am more savvy with both platforms which will help me in the future.

What was your favorite part of your internship?

I loved meeting with Barrett each week and having a weekly mentoring session with him. In any internship, the work you do professionally will always help you learn something new and help you grow. However, the people you work for and work with, are just as important to helping you grow. Barrett and I got to talk about my future plans, grad school, narrowing down my options and so much more. He celebrated my successes with me and offered so much advice that has helped me more than he knows.

What stood out to you about communicating to the military-connected community?

I love how strong the military-connected community is. There is a huge sense of community and pride surrounding our service men and women and that is one of the things that I have loved the most about working for Evocati. I am the child of a Navy veteran and my father’s service has always meant the world to me and getting to have an internship that centered around the military-connected community was perfect for me.

What did you learn about communication and marketing through your internship with Evocati?

LinkedIn is an amazing platform for marketing that I was totally unaware of. Before this internship, I only used LinkedIn when I wanted to look for jobs. Now, I use it just like I use Facebook, but for all of my professional accomplishments and activities. I think every business and individual should be taking advantage of LinkedIn and the amazing opportunities that can be found there.

What would you like people to know about working at Evocati?

Evocati and the Evocati team are a family. Not only will you learn and grow from your experience, but you will be treated like a part of the team and a part of the family. You will always have a seat at the table and your thoughts, opinions and ideas will always be valued.
