U.S. Potato Industry Gearing Up for USDA-Japan Potato Trade Talks Next Week

NPC CEO Kam Quarles joined the media to detail the annual $150-$200M increase in potato sales through Japanese fresh market access

In a media roundtable hosted by Evocati PR, Kam joined members of the media to discuss the upcoming September 25-29th meetings between U.S. and Japan plant-health officials to discuss U.S. fresh market access. The deal would allow American growers to sell table stock potatoes to the Pacific nation.

Currently, the U.S. ships chipping potatoes into Japan, but fresh trade has not been opened despite the strong chipping trade since 2006. If negotiations continue to go well, NPC estimates $150M in increased revenue once the market has matured.
